Southern Tier BOCES superintendents call on Hochul to lift mask mandate in schools

Officials from Great Southern Tier BOCES (GST BOCES) have sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul asking for clarification on masking as schools as broader state mandate expires.

In the letter, GST BOCES Superintendents argue the mask mandate for businesses set to expire on Thursday, February 10 should mean the mandate expires in schools as well, according to WETM.

The letter comes as state Republicans claim the lifting of the New York’s mask mandate is too little, too late.

“Dropping the mask mandate for businesses was long overdue. Case numbers have been declining steadily for some time along with the severity of the virus,” said state Sen. Peter Oberacker, according to The Citizen.
