Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday, February 8 that New York State Parks saw a record number of 78.4 million visitors in 2021.
Total statewide visits to parks, campgrounds, historic sites, and trails in the state system increased by more than 427,000 in 2021, according to Fox 40. Out of the 78.4 million visits in total, nine million of those visits were to Niagara Falls State Park, which has rebounded from COVID-19 protocols.
This news comes as Gov. Hochul’s proposed 2022-23 budget plan includes $200 million in funding for State Parks, which is an 80% uptick in funding compared to current level.
