Canandaigua YMCA says its working toward brand new, 80,000 square foot home

The YMCA in Canandaigua could be getting a massive overhaul soon.

In fact, renderings of the would-be facility, make it stand out as a true destination in the city.

At the moment the Canandaigua YMCA is housed in a 60,000-square-foot building located at 32 N. Main Street.

The City’s Planning Commission gave approval to subdivide a Constellation Brands property, as well as a special use permit and site plan in October 2021. It’s unclear at this point if the land was donated or purchased.

However, details of the total cost, fundraising timeline, and actual process to build an 80,000-square-foot replacement facility have not been outlined.

The YMCA said in a statement that it’s relying on strong partnerships in the community and looking forward at a vision for the city-at-large. “We have great partners working alongside us to ensure our vision becomes a reality for the residents of the greater Canandaigua community. There is still a lot of work to be done and we will share future details on the project as they become available,” they said.

Renderings show what the sprawling, 80,000-square-foot facility would look like, as well as the site map of the ground where the Y would be located.
