Report on sheriff’s office coming soon, Ontario County officials say

The panel investigating allegations of misconduct in the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office will likely have a report in about a month.

Todd Campbell, West Bloomfield Supervisor who is chairing the “209 Committee,” broadly discussed the panel’s efforts in the Thursday, January 27 meeting of the county Board of Supervisors, according to Finger Lakes Times.

The committee’s nickname references Local Law 209, which grants the board authority to appoint a committee with subpoena power to investigate allegations of wrongdoing by county officials.

This is the first committee of its kind in county history, and a very serious effort,” said Campbell. “The primary focus is to change the culture of the sheriff’s office, including a formal report and recommendations for corrective action. We are coming to an eventual resolution.”

The committee has been meeting every other week since October 2021, following the resignation of Sheriff Kevin Henderson and Undersheriff Dave Frasca. Henderson’s predecessor Sheriff Phil Povero is serving an interim role until the end of 2022.

At Thursday’s meeting, county supervisors unanimously approved hiring a compliance investigator, who will have an office at the sheriff’s department.
