Police investigating after fire claims one life in Auburn

The Auburn Police Department is investigating after a structure fire on Kearney Avenue claimed the life of a local resident.

According to a news release, members of the Auburn Fire Department were dispatched to 22 Kearney Avenue for the report of smoke coming from a residence around 7:22 a.m. on January 28.


Upon arrival flames were observed coming from the residence. Police said that during firefighting operations members of the Auburn Fire Department located the body of a deceased individual.

Members of the Auburn Fire Department, Auburn Police Department, New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control, Cayuga County Coroner’s Office, and Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office are involved in this investigation.


At this point, the identity of the deceased person is being withheld so that proper notification can be made to family members.
