STAR REBATE CHECK: Homeowners in New York would receive $1,000 if Hochul proposal approved

Is the STAR rebate check for homeowners making a comeback? Governor Kathy Hochul has asked the legislature to approve a STAR rebate check this year for taxpayers who make less than $250,000.

She told Syracuse.com that it would be the largest rebate ever given to homeowners in New York if approved.

The average benefit in Upstate New York would be around $970, according to the Governor. A total of approximately 800,000 would receive a STAR rebate check under the proposal.

How much would the STAR rebate check program cost?

Gov. Hochul said the total cost would run approximately $2.2 billion. The added payment would come in addition to the existing STAR rebate check benefit, which some New York homeowners still receive.

Homeowners would not have to apply for the enhanced STAR rebate check.
