Lawmakers in New York are looking to expand the abortion services covered by private insurance.
The bill is part of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus’ Peoples’ Budget released earlier this month, according to NY State of Politics.
The proposed Reproductive Equity Act would do away with more narrow requirements related to rape, incest, or fetal malformation that prevent women from accessing comprehensive abortion coverage.
“In a time when reproductive rights are being rolled back across the country, we must work to ensure that New York State remains a beacon of hope for those in other parts of our nation,” said Senator Samra Brouk, a sponsor of the bill.
