The New York State Board of Regents has approved legislation allowing nurses to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in schools.
The legislation is an amendment to an existing law. It gives registered professional nurses the ability to administer COVID-19 immunizations with a non-patient-specific order issued by a licensed physician or certified nurse practitioner, according to WETM.
The amendment will add the COVID-19 immunization to a long list of vaccines already approved to administer in schools. If the proposal is adopted at the Board of Regents at their meeting in February, the rule will go into effect March 2, 2022.
