Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says it can’t recertify pistol permits, must be done through NYS

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind Pistol Permit holders that the office has no role in the five-year recertification process required by the state. This process is completed and filed with the New York State Police.

There are two ways you can recertify:

You can do so online at by visiting the New York State Police website at here. This site will also allow you to check your recertification status and see when your next five-year recertification date is due. Follow the instructions on the webpage to complete your recertification online.

You can complete the paper form (form number “PPB-2) which can be picked up at our Sheriff’s Office, any New York State Police location or printed at https://troopers.ny.gov/firearms and sent by mail to New York State Police, Pistol Permit Bureau, Bldg 22, 1220 Washington Ave, Albany, New York 12226-2252.
