Moviegoers across New York will soon be able to enjoy beer or wine at the theater. The sale of alcohol at movie theaters has been unanimously approved by the State Liquor Authority earlier this week.
Governor Kathy Hochul is currently working to get rid of several laws still enforced by the Authority that have prevented theaters from selling alcohol for nearly a century, according to WHEC.
“There are literally laws on the books that have not been changed since prohibition ended, and it’s amazing to think there would be any laws on the books in New York State that would be so resistant to change as the [Alcohol Beverage Control] Law,” says Executive Vice President of the Business Council of New York State Paul Zuber.
Move theaters wishing to take advantage of relaxed restrictions will first have to apply for a liquor license, which could take a few weeks for approval.
