The Great Northern Mall in Clay, New York was closed for safety purposes on January 17, according to CNY Central. The closure came after a water pipe burst inside, leaving tenants to wonder when they will be able to open up shop again.
Michelle Gregory, owner of CNY Gym Centre, says she’s frustrated with the closure and didn’t see any damage when she went to check on her business. Gregory also expresses concern that the mall’s owner continually puts a “Band-Aid” on issues instead of addressing them fully.
Burst water pipes are far from the only challenge facing the struggling mall- According to mallgoer Lisa Streeter, “There is no heat, there are gaping holes in the ceiling everywhere.”
In addition, CNY Central has reported on concerns of an unplowed and dimly lit parking lot on the mall’s campus. In response to these concerns, Great Northern’s owner put up a light tower and insists the parking lot is regularly plowed.
