The oldest son of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be the featured speaker at the Syracuse University MLK celebration.
Syracuse.com reports Martin Luther King III, a civil rights activist, global humanitarian and political leader, will speak as part of the 37th annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on January 30. SU officials say the observance is the largest on any college campus.
This year’s theme is: “We Are Part of the Dream.” “As the eldest son of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King III serves as an ambassador of his parent’s legacy of nonviolent social change,” officials said. “We are overjoyed to welcome Martin Luther King III as our featured speaker,” said the Rev. Brian Konkol, dean of Hendricks Chapel. “As we seek to honor the life and legacy of a leader who brought hope and healing to our world, the opportunity to feature Martin Luther King III is an exciting and historic opportunity, and his presence and participation will surely have a longstanding and powerful impact for our campus community.”
Registration for the virtual event is open to the public here.
