Beginning Saturday, private health insurers will be required to cover the cost of up to eight monthly COVID-19 tests for their customers.
That’s thanks to a new policy announced by the Biden administration this week. You’ll be able to either purchase at-home test kits through your insurer or submit receipts for reimbursement. Later this month, the federal government is scheduled to begin distributing 500 million test kits by mail. The administration also plans to open rapid testing sites in the areas experiencing the worst COVID-19 case numbers.
Health insurance providers say they will do their best to comply with the policy, but warn customers it will take some time.
