Marion man charged with aggravated DWI after crash in Palmyra

Deputies report the arrest of a Marion man following a crash on State Rt. 21 in Palmyra.

It happened on Saturday around 2:50 a.m., according to deputies. It was reported to authorities that a vehicle left the roadway in the town of Palmyra after hitting a patch of black ice.

The driver, identified as Luis Amaro-Arroyo, 54, of Palmyra told deputies that the black ice caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

However, he refused field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. After being taken into custody he was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.22%, more than twice the legal limit.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right, and moving from lane unsafely in addition to the DWI charge.

Deputies say Amaro-Arroyo was processed at the sheriff’s office and released on appearance tickets. The charges will be answered at a later date.
