Jeff Pickler among those being considered for Mets’ vacant bench coach job

The New York Mets are now aiming towards hiring “a younger, analytics-driven individual,” per Deesha Thosar of The New York Daily News.

Cincinnati Reds game planning and outfield coach Jeff Pickler is among those being considered for the Mets’ vacant bench coach job, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Since retiring as a player (he was a minor leaguer for eight seasons), Pickler has also worked as a coach for the Minnesota Twins, been a special assistant in professional scouting and player development for the Los Angeles Dodgers, served as a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres, and worked as an assistant coach for the University of Arizona.

This would be an interesting hire as Pickler would be working with Buck Showalter, who is an old-school type manager.
