Cornell Cooperative Extension Viticulture Specialist Hans Walter-Peterson, who runs the Finger Lakes Grape Program, says a lot of rain right before harvest time made it a challenging 2021 harvest for wine grape growers.
Walter-Peterson says the crop was a large one. He says future grape crops face a threat from the spotted lanternfly, which was spotted as nearby as Ithaca last year. We talked with Walter-Peterson about the harvest, relations between grape growers and winemakers, his research and the challenges facing the industry on Inside the FLX.
