21 states and 35 cities raise minimum wage for 2022

2022 is the start of a new hourly wage for millions of Americans across the country.

Starting Jan. 1, 2022, 21 states and 35 cities raised their minimum wage to accommodate their workforce.

A report released by the National Employment Law Project believes there are 81 jurisdictions in all planning to raise their minimum wage, according to The Sun.

Some cities are choosing to bring their minimum wages to $15 per hour, effectively doubling it. Other places where it was already $15 are raising it more.

Inflation is still on the rise, but the boost in wages will help to offset it.

Federal minimum wage

The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 and has not changed since 2009.

2009 up until now is the longest it’s been without any sort of increase.

Congress attempted to raise the national minimum wage to $15, but it did not pass in the Senate.
