For the first time ever, the Victor Fire District has hired paid, career firefighters.
WROC-TV reports Abigail Miller and Robert Wihlen started their new jobs Monday. They’ll receive in-house training, before attending the New York State credentialed Fire Academy in Henrietta next month. The fire district says each must receive 229 hours of training in various areas in order to qualify for their New York State Professional Firefighter Certification.
Miller, an Ionia native, and Wihlen, a Pittsford native, are both EMTs and both served as volunteer firefighters before taking the career positions.
The district says both will also be involved with administrative and maintenance duties.
