Social media claims wrong, NYS Assembly won’t take up bill allowing unvaccinated to be detained

It’s a social media rumor that won’t die, but New York lawmakers are not planning to vote on a bill allowing unvaccinated people to be detained.

The USA Today Network reports the rumor grew out of a 2015 bill that would have allowed detention of people infected with a contagious disease during a public health emergency. That bill, like many introduced in the legislature each year, went nowhere.

The Assembly Health Committee has no plans to take action on the bill and now, its sponsor, Assemblyman N. Nick Perry of Brooklyn says he’ll withdraw it. Various versions of the bill have been introduced three times over the years, each time going nowhere.
