Parrott Hall renovation work on Cornell AgriTtech campus is underway

Work is underway on the restoration of historic Parrott Hall on the Cornell AgriTech campus in Geneva.

The Finger Lakes Times reports Massa Construction was awarded the contract to replace the roof of the building, which served as the first home of the NY State Agricultural Experiment Station. The state announced earlier this month a $500,000 grant in Round XI of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative for the second phase of the project, which includes repairs to the veranda and interior stairway.

The state originally said the building was not worth repairing, but a group calling itself the Parrott Hall Coalition worked for three years in an effort to save the building. In 2019, the city of Geneva put together an agreement with the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the non-profit Friends of Parrott Hall to manage the facility. The group worked to stabilize the structure and put together a list of the most needed repairs.
