In Cayuga County, you can trade your used Christmas tree for a real one.
The Citizen reports the Trade-a-Tree program allows residents to bring in their trees and receive a certificate for a new seedling to be picked up in the spring. The old trees are mulched, keeping them out of the waste stream.
Strip off all decorations and tinsel and bring your tree to the Natural Resource Center, 7413 County House Road, Sennett. You’ll get a certificate redeemable for a blue spruce seedling at the county’s Conservation District Spring Tree & Shrub Sale next May 13th. Bring trees in from 8-3:30 December 27-29 or from 8-noon on the 30th.
