Former President Donald Trump is suing New York Attorney General Letitia James in a bid to end her investigation of his business ventures in the state.
According to published reports, the suit calls for an injunction against any further attempts by the Attorney General to investigate Trump and a declaratory judgement that she is violating his rights. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Albany, was first reported by the New York Times.
James has asked the former President to sit for a deposition January 7th. The Manhattan District Attorney is conducting a criminal investigation of Trump’s finances. The investigation resulted in fraud charges against the Trump Organization and its longtime CEO, Allen Weisselberg in July. Trump is accused of misstating the values of some of his properties, underreporting them to save on taxes and overreporting them on loan applications.
