Wreaths Across America event held Saturday in Auburn

Over 45 wreaths were laid to honor and remember veterans Saturday in the annual Wreaths Across America ceremonies at the Episcopal Church of SS. Peter and John in Auburn.

The Citizen reports it was one of 1,200 wreath laying events across the country. The event was for veterans or active military who have died, are missing in action or prisoners of war. The event was organized by the Cayuga County chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America, the Cayuga Community College Criminal Justice Club, the Auburn High School orchestra and Dana L. West Jr.-Sr. High School in Port Byron.

Auburn Mayor Mike Quill and County Legislator David Gould escorted people to lay wreaths. Sheriff Brian Schenck laid a wreath on behalf the Sheriff’s Department. The event was not held last year, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
