Two hour free parking program in downtown Auburn deemed a success

A pilot program that allowed for free parking for two hours in downtown Auburn is getting good reviews.

The “Welcome Back Auburn Spend a Couple Hours Downtown” program began in May and is set to expire at the end of the year. It provides for up to two hours of free parking on downtown streets and in the Lincoln St. parking garage. City Clerk Chuck Mason says Stephanie DeVito with the Auburn BID told the City Council last week she talked to her members, and they said the program accomplished its goal of encouraging shoppers and diners to spend more time downtown.

One issue that will be looked at is better enforcement of the two hour limit, but it appears likely the program will return next spring.
