How do you file for child tax credits and stimulus checks?
If taxpayers were paid less than what they’re eligible to claim, they can claim that remaining amount on their tax return.
Those that received more than what they qualified for will need to pay back the difference.
Keep your eye out for a Letter 6419 from the IRS, which will detail what you were paid in 2021.

For stimulus checks, if you did not qualify for the third check then you may be eligible for a recovery rebate credit.
To claim the credit you must file your 2021 taxes.
To know the correct amount of your 2021 rebate, you need any stimulus check and plus up payment amounts to file for the correct amount.
A Letter 6475 will be sent to filers detailing their stimulus payment information for 2021.
2020 taxes were due by April 15, but were extended.
If you needed a longer extension you could request it and turn taxes in by Oct. 15.
The tax deadline for next year is still April 15, 2022, though that could be extended due to the pandemic.
