Another sign of the staffing shortages being faced by businesses and organizations. Steuben County has loosened residency requirements for employees in the Sheriff’s Department and DA’s office.
The Star-Gazette reports under the change, Sheriff’s Department employees must now live within five miles of the Steuben County line. That opens up employment to residents of Allegany, Livingston, Ontario, Yates, Schuyler and Chemung Counties. The residency requirements for Assistant District Attorneys have been dropped completely. The changes were made to make it easier for the county to recruit workers for those positions and to keep current employees.
