No criminal charges in August Thruway bus crash

A tour bus driver has been ticketed for his alleged role in a Thruway crash in Cayuga County last summer.

The Citizen reports 66 year old Fermin Vasquez of Wingdale faces charges of unsafe lane change and a records violation in the wake of the crash in August near Weedsport.

State Police say there will be no criminal charges. The investigation showed Vasquez was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, nor was he using a cell phone at the time. State Police say the investigation was difficult, because many of the 56 passengers on the bus do not speak English.

The bus was heading west toward Niagara Falls when the accident happened. Injured passengers were taken to Auburn Community Hospital and Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Some of the injuries were serious, but no one was killed in the crash.
