A new program worth $38 million dollars is being implemented by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. It will help families impacted by the pandemic.
The program will be referred to as the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program.
Residents struggling to pay their water bill can apply to the temporary cash assistance program.

The goal of the program is to keep running water for households in danger of losing it.
How to qualify for the assistance
Households in North Carolina will automatically qualify for the program if their water is shut off or they’re in danger of it being shut off.

Other ways to qualify include being a household that receives Food and Nutrition Services, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Work First services, or Low-Income Energy Assistance Program services.
If you don’t meet the requirements but still think you need help, you can still apply.
Applications began Dec. 1.
