Governor Kathy Hochul plans to advocate for the $2 billion dollar Interstate 81 project during a meeting with a federal official today.
Syracuse.com reports Hochul will meet with former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, who’s been assigned by President Biden to oversee spending under the $1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure plan he recently signed into law. She’s expected to emphasize the importance of funding for the plan to tear down part of the highway that cut in half the historically black 15th Ward neighborhood.
New York is expected to receive $11.6 billion in federal infrastructure funds. The Biden administration has cited the I-81 project as an example for cities looking to reconnect neighborhoods that were displaced by the construction of the Interstate Highway system.
