Animal cruelty arrest in Lyons after dog dies from neglect

The Wayne County Sheriff’s office reports the arrest of a Lyons man following an animal cruelty investigation.

Calan Lopinto, 51, was charged with failing to provide sustenance under Ag & Markets law.

On July 15, following a phone call to local animal control – Lopinto’s dog was found in his garage with open, draining neck wounds, saturated in blood, and covered in maggots and flies.

He had to be euthanized due to the extent of injuries.

Lopinto was released on an appearance ticket and will answer the charges at a later date.
