Postage rates may change in 2022 following new USPS proposal

What you pay to ship packages and send mail may change on Jan. 9, 2022.

This is because the USPS filed a request with the Postal Regulatory Commission to change their prices.

The USPS has proposed a new base price range as well as new changes and fees to other services.

USPS Connect Local is currently a pilot program in Texas, but plans to expand in 2022. This offers same or next day delivery to local addresses that are serviced with the local post office.

USPS Retail Ground will propose a new and more competitive price structure.

A new $1.50 fee will be created for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and Parcel Select services when the shipper doesn’t provide the packages dimensions or they are incorrect.

Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, Parcel Select, First Class Package Service, and USPS Retail Ground will see fees for packages that exceed sorting requirement sizes. Packages with over 22 inches in length will have a $4.00 fee, packages with over 30 inches in length will see a $15.00 fee, and packages over 2 cubic feet with have a fee of $15.00.
