On federal holidays like Thanksgiving, all federal offices remain closed, including the post office.
This Thanksgiving is the first one in two years for many families where everyone comes together since the pandemic started.
With places like the post office closed, many families will be able to be together this holiday.

Other official federal holidays the post office was/will be closed in 2021 include:
- New Year’s Day, Jan. 1
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 18
- President’s Day, Feb. 15
- Memorial Day, May 31
- Independence Day, Observed July 5 due to July 4 being a Sunday in 2021
- Labor Day, Sept. 6
- Columbus Day, Oct. 11
- Veterans Day, Nov. 11,
- Thanksgiving, Nov. 25
- Christmas, Dec. 25
Banks are closed as well, and it’s important to double check public transportation schedules. Sometimes they change during the holiday.
Many stores will close Thanksgiving Day then reopen for Black Friday the following day. Target is one, after choosing to remain open on the holiday for years.
