Wayne Mahar recognized by Rep. Katko for decades of service, precision forecasting Central New York weather

NBC3’s Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar will retire in December. He announced earlier this year that he would part ways with the station after a decorated, decades-long career in television news.

This week he was recognized by Congressman John Katko (NY-24) who represents the Syracuse-area, where Mahar forecasted.

Katko called Mahar one of “the most recognizable and trusted forecasters in Central New York.”

He had a 36-year career in meteorology, and founded a company called Precision Weather Service. That’s a private weather consulting firm that builds forecasts for major events – including the Super Bowl.

NBC3 is seen in Cayuga, Seneca, and Wayne counties.
