The Wayne Eagles lost a heartbreaking match against Section III’s Marcellus in girls volleyball to advance to the state semi-final round in Class B. The match Saturday afternoon was everything you could ask for a great event, but without the outcome the Eagles had hoped for. Marcellus came away with a 3-2 match win.

Wayne took the first two sets of the match, jumping out to a 2-0 lead quickly, winning both sets 25-23. The first set included the Eagles coming back from down 16-7 at one point early in the set. Marcellus hung tough in set two, but Wayne kept a step ahead to seal the victory. Marcellus however came back to take set three 25-22, and took a good bit of momentum with them to set four, nabbing another 25-22 win. Set five went down to the wire, tied up at 21-21 before a called timeout, but Marcellus pulled away to seal the match win with a 25-23 set win.
The Wayne Eagles will finish the season with a 16-1 season record, and 12-0 in Finger Lakes East play in addition to being Class B Section V champions.
