A massive RV center is being proposed across from del Lago Resort & Casino. Wilkins RV Center wants to open a facility on a 40-acre parcel along Route 414 in Tyre.
A public hearing is scheduled with the county’s Industrial Development Agency over financial assistance, which would be provided to developers.
The public hearing will happen Monday, November 15 at 12:30 p.m. It will be hosted at the Tyre Municipal Building.
The IDA has proposed negotiating a payment in lieu of taxes agreement, or PILOT, for the company’s first 10 years of operation. They would also receive an exemption from paying sales tax on materials, supplies, and equipment purchased by Wilkins for the operation.
The company is currently going through the Town of Tyre’s approval process and hopes to break ground in the coming months after being given the final approvals. Officials said it could come at the December 2 meeting.
The Center for Government Research conducted an analysis of the proposal and found there would be $51.9 million in benefits in terms of sales tax, property taxes, and payroll for the town, county, and state. Meanwhile the exemptions granted under the proposed PILOT would cost $745,000.
