New rules have been signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul for care of pets in New York.
The law includes an update to how suspected animal abuse is reported.
Under the change, veterinarians are forced to report any suspected animal abuse they come across. Their identities will be protected and the veterinarians will receive a report confirming what they saw.
It’s unclear how this will aid in enforcement of animal abuse laws.
The second bill prevents insurance companies from refusing policy changes for certain breeds of dogs.
