RIT junior Kolby Matthews was named the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week while freshman forward Carter Wilkie landed Rookie of the Week recognition, Monday. Matthews earned his second honor of the season while Wilkie earned his second-straight and third in four weeks.
Matthews improved to 4-0-2 with a tie/shootout win and a win versus Mercyhurst last week. He stopped 22 shots in Friday’s 3-3 tie with the Lakers along with both penalty shot attempts as the Tigers went on to win the shootout, 2-0. Matthews then stopped 29 of 30 shots in Saturday’s 3-1 victory, only allowing Mercyhurst to score on a 4-on-3 opportunity in the second period.
Wilkie notched a goal and an assist in Friday’s game before adding a goal in Saturday’s win. He also blocked three shots and won 20-of 24 face-offs in Friday’s decision before winning 10 face-off on Saturday.
RIT (4-2-2, 2-0-2 AHA) hits the road this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 6-7) for a pair of games at AIC. Face-off is set for 5:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
