The Wayne Eagles headed back to Eastridge High School on Friday night under very similar circumstances as Tuesday night. With the rain falling once again, the Eagles were aiming to continue the march to a finals appearance next week in Class A. Tonight, the battle with Pittsford Sutherland was a deadlock for a majority of the contest.
With two of Section V’s best scorers on the season squaring off in Josh Bolt for Wayne and Will Field for Pittsford Sutherland, one may have thought that it could be an offensive minded match, however with the rain blasting down, it quickly became a defensive battle. With the Eagles and Knights deadlocked heading in to the half, the victor would have to be who took advantage of opportunities when presented to them. Pittsford Sutherland’s David Adeleke-Adedoyin scored the first goal of the game at the 17’ mark in the second half, and Will Field followed with one of his own with four minutes left on the clock in the game. Wayne finishes the season with an overall record of 16-3-0, and 12-0-0 in the Finger Lakes East. Wayne will be returning all but seven players for the 2022 season, and will look to continue its long running tradition of sectional runs. Pittsford Sutherland will face off with the winner of Greece Arcadia and Churchville-Chili on Tuesday night for the Section V Class A crown.
