Facebook is now choosing to focus on the future and what they think it may look like. By choosing the name Meta, they’re emphasizing how they think technology will look like.
Facebook was recently outed for putting profits over people, and a whistleblower leaked documents and memos proving it.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, describes a future where digital worlds can interact with each other and refers to them as the metaverse. He added it would be built with privacy in mind.
At a Facebook presentation conference he stated that if everyone worked at it, within ten years billions of people could be reached, billions could be supported through digital commerce, and jobs would be created for developers and content creators.
Facebook’s app will remain the same for users for now, but the company, now Meta, will be working on a new virtual reality headset called Cambria that should be out next year. It can sense emotions on a users face to put it out into the “metaverse.”
Zuckerberg also said he will be focusing Meta on things for work in the virtual reality world as well.
