The Seneca Falls Police Department is partnering with Ring.
The agency announced this week that they have partnered with Ring “Neighbors” Community to connect with residents and offer a way to inform people of activity occurring in neighborhoods around town.
Neighbors allows users to share photos, videos, and information related to local crime and safety incidents so other residents can stay informed.
Ring provides a free app which can be found in iOS and Android stores. It allows users, even if they do not have a Ring security camera, to communicate with other residents, report incidents, and get real-time alerts put out by community members and the Seneca Falls Police Department.
People who do have Ring cameras are offered the ability to upload and/or report incidents privately and directly to the department. The partnership doesn’t mean police have direct access to home surveillance systems. It also doesn’t allow police to know which residents even have home surveillance systems.
“While we can view any footage publicly shared within the app, the only time our agency would be directly provided with the footage and identity of a user would be if it is voluntarily provided by the user,” officials explained in a news release. “Feel free to spread the word and make sure to always report criminal activity or emergency situations directly to the Town of Seneca Falls Police Department by contacting (315)568-4850 or 911.”
