Pizza delivery driver charged with DWI while working after leaving scene of crash

State police say a pizza delivery driver was arrested for DWI after a crash on October 16.

Police responded to a hit and run property damage crash on West Sand Lake Road in North Greenbush late Saturday. They said a driver struck a mailbox and left the scene.

State police were provided the vehicle information by a witness who saw the crash unfold and was able to get the offending vehicle’s license plate.

Troopers located John Smith, 35, of Nassau at his place of employment where he arrived to meet them after completing pizza deliveries for the local restaurant.

While speaking with officers the smell of alcohol was coming from his breath. Field sobriety tests were administered and a blood alcohol test determined Smith was intoxicated.

His BAC was 0.17%. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and issued appearance tickets.
