If someone was already infected with COVID-19, do they have enough antibodies to not need the vaccine?

Many people seem to believe that if they already had COVID-19, they don’t need the vaccine because they’ve already been infected with the virus.

Experts disagree- if someone has already been infected they do still need the vaccine.

It’s hard to tell if someone who has been infected has a reasonable amount of antibodies, and the measurements can vary.

The CDC states:

“Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 because:

  • Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19.
  • Vaccination helps protect you even if you’ve already had COVID-19.”

A study even showed that someone who already had COVID was twice as likely to contract it again compared to vaccinated individuals.
