RIT takes down St. Lawrence, 2-1

RIT senior forward Will Calverley scored the third-period game-winning goal off a turnover caused by senior forward Kobe Walker to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over St. Lawrence in the annual Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend game at Blue Cross Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jordan Steinmetz put St. Lawrence on the board on a shot from the slot with 14:37 left in the first period.

RIT scored the equalizer with 9:23 left in the second after senior forward Jake Joffe finished a rush off a pass from sophomore defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata.

The Tigers took the lead with 14:25 left in the third after Walker knocked down a Saints clearing attempt to Calverley in the slot for the deciding goal.

GAME NOTES

RIT junior goalie Kolby Matthews totaled 32 saves, including three in the final minute with the Saints skating 6-on-5.

Senior forward Nick Bruce notched his third assist in as many games with a helper on Joffe’s goal. Sophomore defenseman Aidan Hansen-Bukata was also credited with his second assist of the season on the play.

St. Lawrence finished the game with a 63-52 shot advantage.

RIT totaled 17 blocked shots, including seven by senior defenseman Dan Willett and three by junior defenseman Ryan Nicholson.

RIT heads to Notre Dame for two games this Thursday and Friday (Oct. 21-22). Face-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
