Sabres score twice in shootout, beat Coyotes 2-1

The Buffalo Sabres improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 2-1 shootout win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday afternoon at KeyBank Center.

Team stats

Dustin Tokarski stopped 20 shots in regulation and overtime plus two more in the shootout to earn his first win of the season.

Cody Eakin scored for the Sabres. Tage Thompson and Arttu Ruotsalainen tallied in the shootout.

Andrew Ladd potted Arizona’s lone goal. Karel Vejmelka made his 32 saves in his NHL debut between the pipes for the Coyotes.

The Sabres power play went 1-for-2 and were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. This season, Buffalo is 4-for-8 with the man advantage and 6-for-6 while down a man.
