Hospitals across the state need help; officials urge them to utilize Executive Order as they focus on long-term solutions

During a press conference, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand explained that New York state is doing everything they can to meet the staffing needs of hospitals, and that the National Guard is always an option.

While the National Guard is available to hospitals when there is a crisis, some are left wondering where they are right now.

An Executive Order has been issued by Governor Kathy Hochul to address shortages in hospitals as well as give them more power to help diminish the crisis.

Hospitals can now use licensed professionals from other states and countries, students, and other means necessary to make sure enough care is going around. Hochul wants those options explored.

The state is currently focusing on long-term solutions in order to help the crisis from getting worse than it already is.

Gillibrand is in favor of helping with student loans in the medical field as well as offering appealing incentives to those who want to go into the medical workforce. This will take time.

Until then, hospitals across the state are focusing on keeping the employees they do have.
