The first ever female has been sworn in to lead the federal prosecutor’s office in the Northern District of New York State.
Carla Freedman was the assistant before becoming U.S. attorney for the Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany region.
President Joe Biden nominated her and she was confirmed by the Senate. She replaces Antoinette Bacon, who had never been confirmed by the Senate.
Freedman’s experience includes 16 years as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan, and an assistant U.S. attorney in Syracuse since 2007. She also served as the narcotics chief in 2018.
