Criminal justice advocates are hopeful that as Governor Kathy Hochul shifts away from the former governor’s policies, she will do the same for policies surrounding incarceration.
Advocates are pushing for policies that would specifically help older inmates that have served at least 15 years of their sentence.
During the pandemic people pleaded with former Governor Andrew Cuomo to grant clemency to older inmates in danger of dying from the virus.
Not only do they ask that she grant clemency and use her power, but they also ask that she restructure the parole board with members who are more sympathetic to the concerns of advocates.
