Homeless driver faces felony charges after August pursuit between Schuyler and Tompkins counties

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a homeless man following a pursuit that happened on August 26.

Around 9:10 a.m. on that date, a deputy attempted to stop a black Cadillac operated by Joseph Esposito, 36, on County Road 14 in the town of Catharine.

Esposito failed to stop and a pursuit entered Tompkins County. It traveled through the towns of Catharine, Cayuta, and ended in the city of Ithaca.

Esposito was identified as the driver and eventually taken into custody even though the pursuit was ended for safety reasons.

He was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property, reckless endangerment as a felony, unlawfully fleeing a police officer as a misdemeanor, and reckless driving.

All of the charges will be answered at a later date in local court.
