Rome woman struck by vehicle hitch hiking

A woman was struck by a vehicle on Saturday while trying to hitch hike in the roadway in Oneida County.

The driver, Bruce Converse, of Rome, accidentally struck the woman, Claudia McNair, on State Route 26.

Converse saw McNair and tried to swerve but did not have enough time.


McNair was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica with minor head and lower body injuries that did not appear life threatening.

It is unknown why she was hitch hiking.

No tickets were issued for the accident.
