Bowhunting season began Friday in the Southern Zone for deer and bear.
The DEC has made a lot of changes to hunting regulations this year, including bowhunters in the Southern Zone only using crossbows for the last two weeks of the season from Nov. 6 to 19.
Bowhunters legally must possess a muzzleloader privilege with a crossbow qualification certificate.
The deadline for Deer Management Permits was also Friday.
